I came across it because of your reference to a Thomas Morgan, Edinburgh, watchpaper you found in the back of it. Thomas Morgan was my g-g-g-grandfather and I've done a lot of research on him and the clocks and watches he made. I know of 37 surviving examples of his work. This is the first of his watchpapers I have seen, so I'm grateful to you for posting a photo. I think I can help you with the date of Morgan's repair of the Edmond watch. From various Edinburgh Directories, Morgan operated from the following addresses:

Year Location
1778-79 Head of Bell's Wynd
1780-83 Back of Guard
1788-89 Head of Bell's Wynd
1790-1800 30 South Bridge, east side (Note: also listed at Cross, south side in Williamson’s 1794-96 directory)
1800-02 11 South Bridge, west side
1803-04 37 South Bridge
1804-05 9 Nicholson Street
1805-07 Infirmary Street (Note: No 1 from newspaper advertisement)
1807-08 19 College Street
1808-10 Lothian Street
1810-12 Not listed in Edinburgh directories
1812-13 Buccleuch Pend (Note: Morgan was living here when he died in 1813)

He was at the East Side of South Bridge address on the watchpaper from 1790 to about 1800. So I would expect that the repair was done to the Edmond watch in that period. As you suggest, this would appear to be the earliest watchpaper in your watch.

Kind regards
David Craig
Brisbane, AustraliaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5496315488262026526.post-77507947999566659072018-04-26T12:10:30.460+12:002018-04-26T12:10:30.460+12:00Yes, that's him, Mayor of Invercargill 1873-74...Yes, that's him, Mayor of Invercargill 1873-74 and again 1878-79. Her name was Annie Morgan and presumably she brought it to Canada from Scotland when she immigrated here in 1898. Annie Morgan was raised in Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland by a women named Helen (born aprox 1819)listed as her grandmother. Helen and Annie appear on census documents together in Crieff in 1871 and 1881 however Helen's last name appears to be different on each. In 1871 as Douglas and 1881 as Dalglish. This Helen was born in Blackford, Perthshire, Scotland.
As this sampler passed through the generations of our family we concluded that Helen Dougal as stitched in the sampler was likely the Helen D that raised Annie Morgan and the name was incorrectly transcribed on/from the census forms.
The sampler we have done in 1830 at age 12. The stitching is faded but It appears to say: Helen Dougal Her Sampler aged 12. Mrs. Henderson Forersters Croft.

It is also possible that Helen Dougal that made this sampler is not the same Helen "D that raised Annie Morgan.

Dougal
Douglas
Dalglish
Its all a bit of a mystery.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04821428387691508346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5496315488262026526.post-63633349108222152392018-01-18T07:47:11.762+13:002018-01-18T07:47:11.762+13:00Yes, that's intriguing indeed.
